WELLINGTON, Florida, Feb. 7, 2019–Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu and All In won the Adequan Global Dressage Festival CDI5* for the Freestyle Thursday in what may be the last competition before a baby break for Canada’s top ranked partnership.
Brittany, who is scheduled to give birth in mid-June to what she disclosed is a boy, and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding were awarded 71.304 per cent for the win. This was the second victory this year for the Canadian 2018 World Equestrian Games and 2015 Pan American team silver medal pair.
Katherine Bateson-Chandler of Wellington and Alcazar, also a 14-year-old KWPN gelding, placed second on 70.696 per cent with Yvonne Losos de Muniz of the Dominican Republic on Foco Loco W third on 69.696 per cent.
“This year,” said Brittany, 30 years old and who owns All In with her husband, said as she was pregnant and not scheduled to compete at the Pan Ams in Lima in July, she was taking “the time to perfect movements I’ve been struggling with the last couple of years, nitpicking the movements apart.”
She’s feeling good and so is the horse she began competing at small tour in 2013 and moved up to Grand Prix 2 1/2 years later.
Since then, she has competed All In on both sides of the Atlantic, including some of the premier shows in Europe, as well as the two championships.
“I love to compete,” she said, “I love to represent Canada.”
She and runner-up Katherine Bateson-Chandler both train with four-time Canadian Olympian Ashley Holzer who is based in Wellington and now rides for the United States.
All In and Alcazar, the same age, have been on a similar trajectory, starting medium tour at about the same time and moving up to Grand Prix at about the same.
Asked what her goal was in the Freestyle Friday night, Katherine joked: “To beat Brittany.”
Brittany’s response, “We’re close to 77 (actually 76.990 per cent) and would love to get 77 per cent before we take a break.”
