May 8th, 2012 marked a bleak day for traditional Warmblood breeders and for dressage enthusiasts. Yesterday, we had to say good-bye to the great stallion Don Primero who passed away at the age of 27.  This highly successful competitor ad sire left is mark on the Warmblood breeding world through his 30 licensed sons and many daughters. A son of the legendary Donnerhall, Don Primero was noted as one of his sire’s best sons and, indeed, his first licensed stallion.

In 1999, Don Primero made headlines when he sold for almost 2,000,000 Deutsch Marks to Sweden where he served as a schoolmaster and breeding stallion.

Don Primero was euthanized humanely after an acute colic attack in Sweden on May 8th, 2012.
